Background
Following the failure of the Government to implement the Archer Report in full or even hold a debate The RT Hon Lord Morris of Manchester introduced a Private Members' Bill into the House of Lords.
If passed the Contaminated Blood (Support for Infected and Bereaved Persons) Bill [HL] 2009-10 would implement the Archer Report Recommendation.
In the last parliament the Bill passed quickly through the House of Lords but was not given any parliamentary time by the Government in the House of Commons. The Bill could still have progressed without parliamantary time if no MP objected. Sadly, Government Whips Kerry McCarthy MP and John Spellar MP blocked the Bill again and again until parliamentary time ran out.
Following the election The RT Hon The Lord Morris of Manchester introduced the Bill again into the House of Lords. The Haemophilia Society is hopeful that it will pass the Lords again quickly. Members are encouraged to ask their local MP to pledge their support for the Bill when it come before them in the House of Commons.
