Can we still go on holiday

Yes, but there are a few things it would be sensible to consider first.

  • Always wear medical identification information
  • Always carry your own treatment products with you
  • Carry a letter for security staff at your port of exit or entry, this can be obtained from your haemophilia centre, it should explain, why you are carrying treatment products, prescribed drugs, needles, syringes etc and the serious implications of not having them immediately to hand
  • Always carry your treatment products, prescribed drugs, needles, syringes etc onboard the aircraft as hand luggage.
  • Carry a letter from your haemophilia centre with information about your bleeding condition and any viruses you may have,if possible this letter should be in the language of the country you are visiting, this is especially important if you cannot treat yourself.
  • Carry a letter to present at customs which explains why you are carrying your treatment products, prescribed drugs, needles, syringes etc, once again it would be helpful if this was in the language of the country you are visiting.
  • Visa requirements should be checked prior your visit to the country
  • Check your medical insurance before well in advance of your visit to another country and that it covers you for all pre existing conditions.
  • Contact the haemophilia centre in the country you will be visiting prior your visit (you can find these on www.wfh.org under treatment centres (passport)
  • If you need treatment whilst on holiday, contact the centre before seeking treatment.
